UK immigration officials nabbed eleven men and one woman from India for working without proper visas. The arrests happened during surprise checks at a bedding and cake factory in England.
The raids came after authorities got a tip-off about illegal workers in these places. Seven men from India were caught at the bedding factory, while four more men, also Indian nationals, were found working without the right papers at a cake factory nearby. Additionally, an Indian woman was arrested for immigration violations at a residential area.
Out of those arrested, four will stay in custody until deportation proceedings are sorted out. The other eight were released on bail but have to regularly check in with immigration authorities.
The businesses where these illegal workers were found could face hefty fines for breaking the rules and not doing proper checks before hiring.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has made it a key goal to tackle illegal migration by implementing stricter visa rules across various categories in recent times.
Michael Tomlinson, UK Minister for Countering Illegal Migration, emphasized that such operations demonstrate the government’s commitment to cracking down on illegal immigration across the country.
